Biography

Soteris Kallis (b 1980) lives and works in Cyprus and abroad. He studied womenswear fashion at Central Saint Martins in London for a year. In 2000 he decided to pursue a career in fashion design in order to gain practical experience in the fashion world. Until 2011 he worked as a creative designer and creative consultant for well-known fashion houses in Europe and America, such as Erotokritos in Paris, Angelos Frentzos in Athens, Emilio de la Morena in London, and Dennis Basso and Petrou/Man in New York. In 2010 he exhibited in the Young Collector Show at the Ochi Gallery, Sun Valley, Idaho, USA. With his return to Cyprus in 2011, he decided to concentrate on his work as an artist and he soon started taking part in group shows, such as Reveries of Will at Vamiali’s Gallery, Athens (2011), Drawing Room at the Omikron Gallery, Nicosia (2011), and Fashion Meets Art at the isnotgallery, Nicosia (2012).

In February 2012 Kallis presented his first solo show, entitled The Thirteen Disciples ... A Visual Assault on Logic at the Omikron Gallery. He participated in the Utopia exhibition (featuring new acquisitions from the collection of Nicos Chr. Pattichis) at the Evagoras Lanitis Centre, Limassol (2012), New Somatography at the 50-1 Gallery, Limassol (2013), and at The gymgalleryshop, Nicosia (2014). In 2014 he undertook the art direction, for independent theatre, of two monologues by Samuel Beckett, Not I and Krapp’s Last Tape, in collaboration with the Open Arts theatre company and the Theatro Dentro, Nicosia. In addition to his activity as an artist, he continues as a creative consultant for a number of ongoing projects.
