Call for Art! Deadline extension

The A. G. Leventis Gallery is calling upon contemporary creators to present artwork that is influenced or marked by the tragic events that led to the partition of our country, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état and the invasion of Cyprus and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Green Line in Nicosia.

Approaches that explore question related to related to Cyprus’ complex cultural identity, conflict, war, peace, division or borders, migration, refugeeship and cultural transformations over the last half century are welcome.

The selected artists will exhibit their work in dialogue with the artworks of the A. G. Leventis Gallery in the second half of 2024.  Also, in collaboration with the academic staff of the Gallery, each artist is requested to participate in the organisation and realisation of a creative workshop that can be directed at any age range.

Proposals must include the following:
Artist’s CV (2 pages maximum).
A short abstract (250-500) words explaining their work and how it fits within the themes of the competition.
Images of the work related to the subject of the call.  Artists may submit up to five works, if they wish. More than one work be each artists selected may be included for the exhibition depending on the size.

Proposals may be sent electronically to info@leventisgallery.org or delivered by hand to the reception desk at the A. G. Leventis Gallery (address: 5 Anastasios Leventis Street, 1097 Nicosia), Monday-Friday, 10.00-16.30.


The application deadline has been extended to 19 February 2024
Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of art critics and curators, and seven winners will be selected.

The winning artists will be personally contacted and then an announcement will be made at a special press conference in March 2024.

Each winner will receive an honorarium of €1000.

A catalogue with the artists’ works and a selection of works by the workshop participants will be published in 2025.


Further Information:
Artists must have an undergraduate degree / certificate in fine or applied arts or a relevant degree at a postgraduate level or have established themselves as a professional artist through their participation in solo or group exhibitions.
We are open to a variety of media.
All applicants must be Cypriot citizens or permanent Cypriot residents. If they do not reside in Cyprus, they are eligible for participation, but there will be no extra funds offered to cover travel expenses.

Display of Works:
The A. G. Leventis Gallery will cover the costs of the transport and return of the art to and from the Gallery, within the Republic of Cyprus, as well as its installation.

The artists will determine the method of display in collaboration with the A. G. Leventis Gallery Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Public Engagement, Katerina Stephanides.

A small leaflet / long labels will be available for visitors to the exhibition and the works will be also be presented on the official website, Facebook, and Instagram pages of the Gallery.

Educational Programmes:
Language: Greek or English

Duration/Type of programme:
No age restriction – it may be for children or adults.
Average programme duration: 2 hours.
The programme can be offered up to two times.

Up to €75 per programme will be provided for materials (invoices necessary).

Up to €50 per programme will be provided in the event that the artist requires an assistant; it is the responsibility of the artist to find the assistant.
