Evita Arapoglou, Curator of the Greek Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, will speak on the history of Greek traditional dress through the works of 19th and 20th century Greek artists, for November’s Wednesday Lecture, on the 5th of November at 19:30. In these works, she will look at how scenes of nature and everyday life were enlivened by the use of varied and colourful materials; how official portraits were enriched with drawings and embroideries; and how elaborate details were used to enhance historic scenes. Through her lecture we will see the history of Greek art unfold through depictions of Greek traditional dress, through the people so clothed, and through the artists' reproductions of the Greek costume.
