While the A. G. Leventis Gallery is under construction, the A. G. Leventis Foundation has enriched its collection of European paintings with a new acquisition, Domenikos Theotokopoulos' St Francis in Ecstasy, which belongs to his Spanish period. On the occasion of this new addition and the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia cooperated for the first time with the A. G. Leventis Gallery, to organise an exhibition of El Greco's paintings, Domenikos Theotokopoulos: from Candia to Toledo - The footsteps of a European journey, which took place in the Temporary Exhibitions Hall of the Leventis Municipal Musem of Nicosia. Five paintings marking the major stops of the artist during his journey from Candia to Toledo in Spain were exhibited, while St Francis in Ecstasy, placed at the far end of the room, represented the final destination and end of his journey. Supportive material, such as timelines, video documentaries, historical books and educational programmes for children, enriched this experience for every one of the thousand visitors who came to the Museum to learn about one aspect of the life of this great artist.
