The works deal with the firm and imperishable relationship between the individual-creator and the wider social context. Aiming to articulate a dialogical relationship between the individual and the ensemble, Andreas Kalli creates works that could be defined as independent stories always based on a completely intimate and honest array of experiences.

Small or large scale constructions stand in space as the absolute mechanisms of a train of thought that is governed by principles, values, and systems. At a pause or in motion, the works mark with their presence a registration in space: the creator’s body is none other than the work’s body that seeks and definitely finds its place in an area of socio-political adjustment. Namely, the work is silently thinking and at the same time “gesturing” when susceptible to external influences. The motion is nothing but a reply to everything that comes to disrupt or “upset” its peace and therefore its immobility. And the balloon, is it an emblematic motif in all the works? Is it the entrapment of exhalation, the sealing in of breath? Or a tangible symbolism of what we call light, delicately weightless. It is primarily an expression of uplift, an escape and even the opening up of infinity.

Andreas Kallis’ practice is mainly governed by rules for the exploration of “being”. What is our image and which is our place in our host space? How do we combine reasoning, values and visions in order to acquire that coveted amalgam of properties called identity? It is our identity but at the same time the identity of our work; a deep, and negotiable, but unfathomable question.
