About the artist

She grew up in Istanbul. In 1895 she went to Munich to study and lived there until the end of the century. In 1907 she got married to the journalist and newspaper publisher Nikolaos Karavias. She lived for 30 years in Alexandria, where she established and directed an art school. She monitored the Greek army operations in the Balkan Wars and published the book ?????????? ??? ??? ?????? ??? 1912-1913. ????????? – ??????? [Impressions from the war of 1912-1913: Macedonia – Epirus] (1936); she also attended the Asia Minor Campaign and went to the Albanian front. In 1940 she settled in Athens. She received the silver medal of the Academy of Athens (1945) and the Cross of the Commander of the Order of Welfare (1954). She showed her work in many exhibitions, including world fairs and international events (Paris 1900; Istanbul 1901, 1902, 1904; Athens 1903; Cairo 1909; Rome 1911; Venice Biennale 1934).   Her painting comprises portraiture, landscapes, still-life paintings, and military and genre paintings, sometimes in the academic tradition and sometimes reflecting plein air and Impressionist attitudes.
