He initially studied in Italy and pursued further studies under Hector Leroux and Jean-Paul Laurens in Paris, where he lived for more than30 years. He spent the last decade of his life in Greece. His exhibitions include participation in the Paris Salon (1862), and the internationalexhibitions in London (1878, 1889) and Antwerp (1885). Portraits, still-life paintings, mythological-allegorical themes, religious scenes and genre works form the artist’s subject matter. In theParis period he followed academic models; after his return to Greece, he adopted a freer, more personal form of expression.
