He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens (1931-1936). As a student, he constructed the stage sets and costumes for a production of Euripides’ Alcestis at the Laiki Skini theatre, directed by Karolos Koun. After his solo exhibition in 1949 in Athens, he withdrew from the art scene until 1975. He then participated in international exhibitions (Belgrade Plastic Arts Exhibition, 1977; Europalia, 1982; Venice Biennale, 1982). He was an artist of the Generation of the ’30s. He introduced elements from Greek tradition and European art, especially from the Fauve paintings of Matisse, while assimilating elements of Cubism, producing paintings in which the male figure usually takes centre stage, treated with a monumental approach.
