OBVERSE:

Bare head of the Emperor Franz Joseph I with heavy whiskers, facing right; surrounded by an abbreviated Latin legend. Legend: FRANC·IOS·I·D·G·IMP·AVSTR·REX BOH·GAL· ILL·ETC·ET AP·REX HUNG·, which reads ‘Franz Joseph I by the grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia, Galicia, Illyria, etc. and elected King of Hungary’.

REVERSE:

Reclining figure of Fame (‘The Lady in the Clouds’); a wreath divides the dates 1848/1908 on the left; denomination 100 COR on the right; Latin legend in two lines below. Legend: DVODECIM LVSTRIS / GLORIOSE PERACTIS, which means ‘12 lustrae [a measure of time of 5 years in Latin, i.e. 60 years] gloriously completed’.

EDGE:

Latin legend in incused lettering VIRIBVS VNITIS, which means ‘With United Forces’, Franz Joseph’s personal motto.
