OBVERSE:
Golden jubilee bust of Queen Victoria, with older features, facing left, wearing a veil with two rows of crenellations and a small Imperial crown; she wears a pearl necklace and pearl drop earrings; her left shoulder is decorated with the badge of the Imperial Order of the Crown of India; the bust is draped and decorated with the Star of the Garter at the base of the bust under a sash; the initials J.E.B. on the edge of the truncation of the bust correspond to the name of the engraver, Joseph Edgar Boehm; surrounded by a Latin legend. Legend: VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F:D:, which reads ‘Victoria Dei Gratia Britanniarum Regina Fidei Defensatrix [or Fidei Defensor]’, meaning ‘Victoria, by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith’.
REVERSE:
St George on horseback advancing to the right, slaying a fallen dragon with a sword; he wears a helmet with flowing streamer and cape on his shoulders; a broken lance is seen on the ground on the left; the date (1887) is in the exergue; the tiny initials BP to the upper right in the exergue correspond to Benedetto Pistrucci, the designer of the theme of St George and the dragon.
