Our next Wednesday’s Lecture will take place on June 19, 2019, with the subject 'George Polyviou Georgiou: A particular creator'. Dr. Eleni S. Nikita, Curator of the Temporary Exhibition 'George Polyviou Georghiou: Female Nudes' and of the Cyprus Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, will take us through Georghiou’s (1901-1972) artistic journey. She will refer to both his thematic choices as well as the development of his personal aesthetic, which made him one of the most emblematic Cypriot artists.

Georghiou introduced new elements to Cypriot art. In this way he created a visual language, drawing inspiration from both the achievements of the modern movements of the first decades of the 20th century, as well as from the artistic traditions of Cyprus (archaic, Byzantine, medieval and folk). Thematically, his work focuses on the people, the landscape, the history and the culture of the island. It can be understood as an exploration into the identity of a unique geographical and cultural space.  

The lecture will take place at 19.30 at Constantine Leventis Auditorium.
