A ‘lightplay’, an active dialogue between the artwork and the viewer, the artist and the object, the artist and the viewer. An art intervention by Efi Spyrou, now in a new location — the entrance of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, proposing a renewed dialogue with the visitor.

It is woven from black fabric absorbent tapes and yellow reflective tapes. Reflective tapes are usually placed on moving vehicles; the reflection of light makes the object visible in the dark. The fabric, quiet and static, is activated through the movement of light on its surface, inviting the viewer to participate.

Once the reflective surfaces are struck by light, the work is transformed into a flaming, glaring and vibrant object that inspires the spectator. ‘Lightplay’ is the result of an active dialogue between the artwork and the viewer, the artist and the object, the artist and the viewer; and between the bearing organism, the born organism (the artwork) and the participating organism (the viewer).

The work addresses the concepts of movement and pause, light and darkness, through its own structural elements, through what initially appears to be a subtractive approach and through the engagement it arouses.
