Sketching the Bazaar with Yeti:
'An Interactive Look at Telemachos Kanthos and the Sketching Process'

Join us for a day of outdoor urban sketching inspired by Telemachos Kanthos’s archive of sketches depicting the Women’s Bazaar. We will visit the Nicosia Farmer’s Market and sketch people in situ.

Programme:
∙ Meet at the main entrance of the A. G. Leventis Gallery at 10:30
∙ Explore the temporary exhibition ‘Kanthos: The Sharp Edges of History’ and focus on his sketches of the Women’s Bazaar
∙ Discuss the artist’s process and his thinking, planning and information gathering
∙ Try to understand through his sketches how the artist approached his subjects, the distance he kept and the way he tried to convey emotions and movement
∙ With the guidance of Yeti, we will make some practice pencil sketches
∙ Discuss drawing techniques
∙ Go for a walk into the city centre towards the OXI Farmer’s Market at 11:30
∙ Engage in conversation along the way, with brief stops. Participants may sketch and take notes of their surroundings
∙ Arrive at the Market and meet up
∙ Discuss with Yeti what to look for and start sketching
∙ Show and tell at the Gallery: meet up at 14.00 in Renoir’s Workshop on the 2nd floor to have a look at the final results

*Materials will be provided for all participants, including pencils, paper, watercolours, oil pastels, etc. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own materials/sketchbooks with them if they wish to.

The sketching at the Market will last approximately 2 hours. During that time participants may wander off and enjoy the city’s food and culture until the final meet up at the A. G. Leventis Gallery.
