Museums nowadays face severe problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendance, international collaborations and temporary exhibitions are limited. Educational programmes without students, guided tours without visitors and especially the rapid reduction of revenues for museums have had an impact on the design of research programmes and bring about changes in annual planning. However, although these elements are an indisputable reality, they are also a challenge: an invitation to professionals from the field of culture and museums to reflect on our social and cultural role, to plan a restart, recognizing that a redefinition of our actions on all levels is perhaps more necessary today than ever in our history.
 
From this particular perspective, the A. G. Leventis Gallery is celebrating International Museum Day with a series of events that will last throughout the month of May. Most focus on online activities and programmes, responding both to the needs of the times, but also demonstrating the potential of new media and technology, in which our scientific and educational staff has invested in all these months. Also, to a limited extent and depending on the circulars of the Ministry of Health, actions with physical presence in the Gallery premises have been planned.
