To mark the exhibition Charmed Lives in Greece: Ghika, Craxton, Leigh Fermor at the British Museum, Τhe Hellenic Centre and the A. G. Leventis Gallery are organizing an illustrated lecture by Evita Arapoglou, Art Historian and Co-curator of the exhibition, at the Hellenic Centre on Monday 19 March 2018 at 7.15 pm.

The close friendship between Niko Ghika, John Craxton and Patrick Leigh Fermor lasted for fifty years, until the end of their lives. Apart from in London and Athens, the writer and the two artists would often meet at Ghika’s ancestral house on the island of Hydra, at Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermors’ home in Kardamyli, in John Craxton’s studio home on the Venetian harbour of Chania, Crete, and, later, in Niko and Barbara Ghika’s country house on Corfu. Their shared love of the Greek world deeply influenced their work. Photographs from their lives, letters and dedications, together with images of their works of art and excerpts from evocative writings, combine to narrate the story of this significant friendship and of the charm of living in Greece.
