VENUS: AMOROUS & SAVAGE

The activities of the A. G. Leventis Gallery for the months of October, November and December 2017
are dedicated to the temporary exhibition ‘The Venus Paradox’. Each month is dedicated to a non-profit organisation dealing with issues concerning women. October is dedicated to Europa Donna Cyprus, supporting the effort to raise awareness, increase appreciation and assist each family in their battle against breast cancer.

 The A. G. Leventis Gallery in collaboration with Alpha Square presents an additional performance of ‘Venus: Amorous & Savage’, the tribute to the iconic mythological figure of Cyprus, goddess Venus, on Wednesday 18 October 2017 at 20.30.

By utilizing and illuminating the ground floor lobby of the Gallery, in conception and directing of Andreas Araouzos, a prose and poetic tribute to the goddess Venus takes place, with excerpts from Euripides, Homer, Sappho, Milan Kundera, Nikos Kazantzakis, Sam Shepard, Arthur Rimbaud and Pierre de Ronsard.

 The recitation and dramatization of these excerpts will be completed with the performance of cover love songs, thus perfecting the ‘ode’ to the goddess of love and the timeless effect of her ‘manifestation’ on man. The texts and the songs are in English and Greek.

 Participating actors: Alexia Paraskeva, Andreas Araouzos and Herodotos Miltiadous, while the latter performs the songs, accompanied by Efthivoulos Theocharous on piano. Kika Ioannidou designed the costumes for the female role.

 All proceeds from the show will be donated to Europa Donna Cyprus.
