[Info]
He was a tremendously prolific painter and draughtsman from a Lyons family of artists, and the engravings after his drawings did much to promote the Rococo and chinoiserie styles in Europe, especially in porcelain, pottery, textiles, wallpaper and silver. He travelled extensively and never joined the Paris art establishment. Regarded as an heir to Jean-Antoine Watteau and François Boucher, he created Arcadian landscapes and dramatic seascapes, in pastels, oils and drawings.
