About the artist

He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens. He was drawn into politics while still a student. He served as Chairman of the Greek Committee of the Cypriot Struggle. He was actively involved in the struggle of the National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters (E.O.K.A.). In 1960 he was elected to parliament. In 1969 he founded the political party E.D.E.K. (United Democratic Union of the Centre), over which he presided until 2001.Since then he has been its honorary chairman. He also served as President of the House of Representatives. He turned to painting in the early 1950s. He is self-taught. He received his first lessons from his friend the painter Andreas Asproftas.  He first showed his work in the 1960s at the Platres Festival and in a group exhibition with his painter-friends Mario Maskareli and Radislav Trkulja. His work was also presented at solo exhibitions in Nicosia (1981, 2014), Athens (2005) and Strasbourg (2005).
