The next Wednesday’s Lectureof the A. G. Leventis Gallery will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2018. Dr. Eleni Nikita, Curator of the Cyprus Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, will deliver the lecture entitled Christoforos Savva – 50 years later. Dr. Nikita will speak about Savva’s artistic journey, focusing on his emblematic role in Cyprus’ contemporary history of art and on how his art both ended a period and began a new one in the history of artistic production on the island. Dr. Nikita is the author of ‘Christoforos Savva – The beginning of a new era in Cypriot art’, published in 2008.

Christoforos Savva was a pioneering artist, not only with his stylistic endeavors, but with the fresh spirit he endowed upon Cypriot art. The spirit of continuous exploration of modes of expression, of materials, of techniques. The spirit of experimentation, of renewal; a bold approach in the use of a new artistic vocabularies. Throughout this constant exploration, Christoforos Savva never disregarded the long-standing artistic tradition of his country.

During the lecture an unknown piece by Christoforos Savvas, found recently in Paris, will be on display. This piece is now part of the A. G. Leventis Gallery’s Cyprus Collection.
