The Wednesday Lecture, entitled ‘A Walk with Niki: poetry of Niki Maragkou’, by Flora Manakidou, Professor at the Democritus University of Thrace.

Niki Marangou had a multifaceted arstisic personality – she was active as a poet, a writer and a visual artist.  Her walks have played a significant part in her poetry since the beginning  of her career. Through a selective reading of Marangou’s poetry, we will see how her peripatic nature was a source of inspiration and memory , and how these personal recollections translate into poetics. Other thematic aspects of her poetry will also be explored, such as her erotic and metaphysical approach to experiences and her relationships with the people she meets on her walks and colours through her words.

On Wedesday May 10, 2017 professor Flora Manakidou, a personal friend of Niki Marangou, will deliver a lecture dedicated to her. Professor Manakidou first worked as a lecturer between 1993-99 in the Department of Classics, History and Philosophy at the newly founded University of Cyprus. Since 2000 she has been teaching at the of Department of Ancient Greek Philosophy of the  Democritus University of Thrace as Professor of Ancient Greek Literature. For a number of years she has been teaching Greek culture at the Hellenic Open University (20090-) and the graduate program of the Literature Department at the University of Peloponnese.

The lecture is organized on the occasion of the four years since the untimely death of Niki Maranhou. This event takes place as part of a collaboration between the A.G. Leventis Gallery and Konstantis Kandounas, regarding the donation of an apartment in the old town in memory of Niki Marangou to be used by collaborators of the A.G. Leventis Gallery.
