He studied at the School of Arts in Athens (1894-1896) and completed his studies at the Académie Julian in Paris. He earned a silver medalat the Exposition Universelle in Paris (1900). In 1911, he was appointed professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, but soon resigned; from1915, he was once again appointed and taught until 1949, also serving as the school’s director from 1946. In 1909 he received the Order ofKing George I for his portraits of the royal family. He received the Excellence in Arts and Letters Award of the Academy of Athens (1948) andbecame a member of the Academy of Athens (1949). During the last years of his life he ceased painting due to an eye condition.He made pastel depictions of stylish urban life in a Belle Époque manner, as well as symbolic and idealist themes, but was renowned aboveall as a portraitist.
