About the artist

He graduated from the School of Arts in Athens in 1887 and went on to study in Munich, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts on scholarship from the Kritsis Bequest. He further studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He returned to Greece in 1894 and taught at the School of Arts from 1895 to 1903, when he resigned and moved to England for five years. Two years after his return to Greece, he was once again appointed to the School, where he taught until 1927.   He painted portraits, genre works and events from the 1897 Greek-Turkish War and the Balkan Wars, as well as landscapes in a Post- Impressionist vein.
