He dropped out of his medical studies at the University of Athens and went to Paris for independent studies in painting (1930-1932); there he met Giorgos Gounaropoulos, who in effect became his teacher, and Tériade. He participated in the Biennales of Venice (1934) and Alexandria (1954), as well as in exhibitions by the ‘Techni’ and ‘Stathmi’ groups. Landscape and the human figure, especially the female and the child’s, represent the two main themes in his painting, which can be characterised by its lyrical mood.
